Merge Network to Ax its Rakeback Program

The Black Friday incident has changed the face of the online poker industry. There used to be a lot of competition, with poker rooms scrambling all over themselves just to provide the best promotions and the best programs. Now, there’s just little incentive to continue to do so when the market’s the one in need. The MERGE Network has succumbed to this temptation, deciding to ax its rakeback program. All the poker sites under the MERGE Gaming Network will discontinue its rakeback program beginning from June 1 onwards, much to the dismay of players.

About MEGE’s Rakeback Program

Online poker rooms profit by taking a portion of every pot played. This portion is called the ‘rake’. Rakeback is a promo wherein players are given back a portion of the money that the room has taken from them. This is particularly beneficial for those who spend a lot of money for poker, as there are many who receive more than $1000 rakeback on a monthly basis. Rakeback is one of the most amazing types of promos present in the online gambling industry. In fact, a lot of people choose their poker sites depending on the rakeback program.

MERGE Gaming has quite a lucrative rakeback program. They offered 35% rakeback – quite a large amount, all things considered. It no doubt pulled a lot out of the network’s profits, but was necessary for them to implement if they wanted to compete with the larger poker sites such as Full Tilt and PokerStars.

However, as mentioned earlier, competition has weakened now that the major sites are gone. The result was MERGE getting rid of its rakeback program like a bad habit. Then again, it could also be a strategy for survival if they ever get targeted by the US Department of Justice, as well. Full Tilt offered the most lucrative rakeback program on the net, and now they’re paying heavily for it. Some sites in the MERGE gaming network still accept US players, so it could easily be them targeted next by the feds. Carbon Poker is the biggest poker room within the MERGE gaming network and it has also announced that it will be discontinuing the Rakeback Program on June 1. Any new players registering on the site will not be able to get into the program, but old players will still enjoy the privilege. In fact, if you ever plan to create an account at MERGE, you better do it before June 1st.
