Online Poker Crackdown might have Hand in Victory over Bin Laden

The world was just recently turned upside down by the news of Osama Bin Laden’s death at the hands of Navy SEAL ‘Team Six’ of the USA. It’s a vendetta that took ten whole years to complete, but now the souls of those victimized at the 9/11 terrorist attack can rest easier knowing that Osama Bin Laden has finally been silenced and that he can no longer the same to future generations. The poker community, like the rest of the world, is abuzz with the news of Bin Laden’s death – only there’s something extra that spices the story up. There’s a conspiracy theory going around that the online poker crackdown (full info here) which happened on April 15 actually had a hand in pinpointing the location of the elusive terrorist. True or not, it’s still unknown, but it sure is interesting.

Poker gets the better of him

According to the conspiracy theory, one of Bin Laden’s closest associates is a very avid online poker player. The Central Intelligence Agency, more commonly known as the CIA, had intel saying that Bin Laden was staying in a mansion in Pakistan, but they were unsure of the location of the said mansion. Five days later, the government seized the domains of PokerStars, Full Tilt, and Absolute Poker and froze the bank accounts of the said poker accounts. A few more days later, it was announced that the US gave back the domains and unfroze the bank accounts. Then the death of Osama bin Laden was announced. The theory goes that the US actually struck a deal with the three sites where the domains would be returned and the bank accounts unfrozen and in return they would be given all information about ‘online poker activity’ in both Pakistan and Afghanistan. What happened after that was history, the Navy SEAL Team Six invading Bin Laden’s compound and subsequently assassinating the most feared terrorist in the entire world.

Veracity, anyone?

The theory may seem quite a bit farfetched, but it does make just enough sense to get people to take notice of it. Poker fans are debating the issue nonstop at the poker forums, milking the idea for what it’s worth. The thing is, we probably never will know whether the theory is true or not, but if it is, then it’s one hell of an interesting story. It’s not every day that the poker industry gets to play the hero, after all.
