Top 3 ideas for online poker rooms in 2011

With the New Year rapidly approaching –pretty much as soon as you start hearing Christmas Songs on the radio you can be certain that the next two months is going to go by like a complete blur, leaving you out of shape, with an accumulation of things you never asked for like a coffee machine/toaster combo, and your bank account in need of a TARP bailout.

So with this in mind I am going to list my Top 3 ideas for online poker rooms to implement in 2011.

#1: Enough with the deposit bonuses!

Honestly, it’s definitely time to end this archaic practice. Every site’s poker deposit bonus is virtually the same when you break it down per hand, and virtually every rakeback deal or VIP cash-back program trumps the deposit bonus. So, my advice to the online poker rooms is to either come up with something innovative in terms of a deposit bonus –such as offering 50% or 100% up front, or just scrap the system entirely and find a new way to bring new players to your tables.

#2: Focus on security.

The one are of online poker where every player from the hardened pro to the prospective customer would like to see improved is security. Some online poker rooms such as Lock Poker have implemented an added layer of security –known as the Vault—where you must enter a PIN number as well as a secret question answer to access your funds, in addition to logging onto the site with your username and password. So, if your username and password are compromised your funds are still safe and secure.

UB Poker, PokerStars, and Full Tilt Poker have also added a unique security tokens. These tokens randomly generate a new, unique, number that must be entered whenever you log-in to your online poker account. Steps like these that will put people’s minds at ease when it comes to the safety and security of online poker rooms.

#3: Advertising campaign stating online poker IS NOT illegal in US.

This came up a lot after Harry Reid’s proposed online poker bill became THE NEWS STORY in the poker world in early December. Most of the mainstream media’s coverage spoke of online poker in illegal terms, further solidifying the erroneous thinking of the general population that it is illegal to play online poker.

The sites need to do some serious advertising to debunk this myth, and ease the US population’s mind that it is not illegal to play online poker! It is not illegal to deposit or withdraw from an online poker account! The only people breaking the law are the payment processors who are doing the transactions.
