Fabrice Soulier Wins WSOP Bracelet

The $10,000 HORSE event at the WSOP was one that really drew the attention of the poker industry. Tom ‘durrr’ Dwan, considered by many as one of the best poker players in the world, drew close to winning his first WSOP bracelet. Normally, this wouldn’t cause such a big fuss. But rumors have it that millions of dollars, possibly even more than the Main Event prize, hinge on Tom Dwan getting his first bracelet this year. Such was the case last year when several pros held their breath as Tom Dwan battled for the bracelet at heads up. But he ultimately lost and his opponent ended up earning the gratitude of several of the game’s biggest professionals. Now, the poker world once again held its breath as Tom Dwan entered the final table in the lead with a quarter of the chips in hand. However, luck would duck out on Tom Dwan, and he ended up exiting at fifth place. The winner of the HORSE championship turned out to be Frenchman, Fabrice Soulier. Soulier outlasted a field of 240, taking home the much coveted bracelet and a sizeable grand prize of $609,130.

Final Table Play

Ironically, the first elimination of the final table was courtesy of Tom Dwan. Jacobo Fernandez, already suffering from a short stack, had to hit the rails when he went all in on a hand against the poker pro. At seventh place was Andrey Zaichenko, who was eliminated by Binger. Matthew Ashton went out of the game at sixth place, this time eliminated Buchanan. During all that, Tom Dwan was rapidly losing his edge at the game, losing all the chips he had amassed. By the time he ducked out at fifth place, he actually had a short stack and was eliminated by Buchanan. After Tom Dwan, it was Daniel Ospina who went out at fourth place. He was eliminated by Soulier himself. Then, at third place was Andrey Zaichenko. Like Dwan, Zaichenko was eliminated by Buchanan who managed to win the pot with trip sevens.

Heads Up Between Buchanan and Soulier

Buchanan had eliminated several players during the course of the game, but ultimately, he entered heads up short-stacked. Soulier, on the other hand, had won several big pots, and ended up with a very secure 6:1 chip lead over Buchanan. Buchanan tried to fight back, but he was ultimately eliminated shortly after play began. The flop at the final hand was 10C 8D 4H. Buchanan held JD JC 10S 7H while Soulier held QD JS 8H 6H. The turn was AD and the river was 6S. That gave Soulier a two pair, and Buchanan was simply unable to fight back.
