Full Tilt Poker – Donk Down in Washington

Donk Down Alert!

Following the footsteps of the largest poker site in the world (Poker Stars), Full Tilt Poker announced that it will no longer allow real money poker in the state of Washington. While the law prohibiting real money gambling was passed in 2006, most online gambling sites continued to serve the states players. However, when the Supreme Court recently upheld that law after a long legal challenge Poker Stars abruptly pulled out.

The timing of Full Tilt’s move shouldn’t come as a big surprise. Their legal team spent hundreds of man-hours poring over documents and legal precedents before making the decision to pull out of Washington. This will likely be seen as a “good will gesture” in the eyes of law makers as poker sites such as Full Tilt attempt to gain “legal” status in the US.

How this will all play out as the new wave of Republican leadership takes over in Washington, DC remains to be seen. With the US economy still in recovery and jobs a major issue the legal gambling bit of law is likely far down the totem pole. In the meantime, players residing in Washington still have other real money choices such as Carbon Poker.
