Negreanu falls short at PokerStars EPT Vienna

With a commanding chip lead heading into the final table it looked as if Daniel Negreanu might join Gavin Griffin and Roland de Wolfe as poker’s only Triple Crown winners (EPT, WPT, and WSOP wins) but Negreanu ran into a cooler halfway through the final table that all but sealed his fate.

Not only did Negreanu have to cope with losing a three-way all-in confrontation that knocked him down to just 2 million chips, but he also felt Martin Hruby slow-rolled his nut straight on the turn –which would tilt just about anyone.

In the end the tournament came down to a heads-up battle between Martin Hruby and 20 year-old Michael Eiler. Eiler hung in all tournament, coping with bad-beats and dead-cards to reach heads-up play, and was finally able to get something going. Eiler quickly erased Hruby’s 2-to-1 chip-lead, and found himself all-in with ATs against 22. Eiler flopped the nut flush and the turn and river brought no aid to Hruby, making Michael Eiler the EPT Vienna champion.

Here are the complete final table results from the PokerStars EPT Vienna tournament:

  1. Michael Eiler — €700,000
