Baccarat winners put dent in Las Vegas May revenue

Casinos have an interesting relationship with poker players, they’re playing for other players money – not the house money. They make a little scratch from the rake but poker rooms are far from a casino’s cash cow. Slot machines hold that honor followed by table games such as Let It Ride and Black Jack. Baccarat also falls into the aforementioned category but the month of May was quite the anomaly. The Nevada Gaming Commission just released the numbers for the month of May and let’s just say that the Baccarat whales took the joint for a ride…

Moving squarely from the profitable column to the loss column for Las Vegas properties, Baccarat players CRUSHED the game in May with their total take approaching 36 Million Dollars. Not only that but the big players obviously smelled blood in the water as their total bets were also up 7.1%. So just how large was this collective win versus overall gaming revenue? Huge. If you take out the winnings from Baccarat, the gaming revenue would actually be a net gain as opposed to a net loss for the month, so this is without question a substantial win.

In the grand scheme of things, this is peanuts and it’s certainly not going to cause any casino executives to start shaking in their boots. But it still doesn’t ease the sting of a great month for the high stakes Baccarat players. So long as they don’t go and donk it all back to the casinos playing Craps.
