The action at the Vdara is smoking hot

If you’re looking for smoking hot poker action at the ultra-lux resort Vdara in Vegas, you won’t find it anywhere inside the property. In fact, the smoke free facility offers zero gaming.

However, if you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to get zapped by a Death Ray you could hang out at the pool behind the arching windows on this “hot” Vegas property. A few things to consider:

The Vdara is located in the middle of Las Vegas, which just so happens to be in the middle of the dessert in Nevada. Therefore you have very little in the shade department via clouds or even trees.

The temperature in Vegas can top 110 degrees during the peak Summer hours.

Now point that hot Vegas Sun at a concave glass surface that’s approximately 125,000 square feet.

See what happens.

That is what’s left of a guests newspaper that was left in the path of the intense reflection from the Vdara facade near the pool. It’s literally burnt to a crisp!

It’s been reported that MGM Properties, the owners of the Vdara, were made aware of the potential for this phenomenon during the planning phases for the tower. What’s not clear is what steps, if any they took to impede those burning rays that are now scaring off guests because they’re afraid for their safety. There’s also reports of a company that offered a special film to cover the windows and help with the problem but were apparently rebuffed by the Executives that run Vdara.

What is very clear now is that the folks at Vdara have a PR issue as well as a safety issue at hand. They’re looking at all options now to correct the problem including the before mentioned window film as well as the planting of trees in strategic areas and large shades to help protect guests staying at the property.

Me? I’ll just stick with the $50.00 rooms in Old Vegas and worry about my sun tan later.
