Sorel “Imper1um” Mizzi Wins 2010 Bluff Magazine Player of the Year Award

Sorel “Imper1um” Mizzi had a blast last 2010 with his stellar performance in the game and as proof of his excellent skill, Bluff Magazine crowned him as the Player of the Year. He earned 1,777 points throughout the year – a truly impressive feat, especially since he managed to take the lead early on, last March actually, and stubbornly held on to it until the very end.

Mizzi’s 2010

Mizzi surely proved his mettle this 2010 by winning the Bluff Magazine Player of the Year Award. He managed to nab third place in the Aussie Millions Main Event, where he won a whopping $659,000. He also won two events at the PokerStars European Poker Tour Snowfest and won about $150,000. Then, he didn’t waste any time in winning another tournament and managed to nab another title last April, this time winning the East Coast Championship Event at the Borgata Spring Poker Open. He got a pretty nice $170,000 for that tournament. April was an eventful month for him, apparently, as he also final tabled the High Roller Event at the EPT Monte Carlo Grand Final. He won $190,000 from that tournament. Then, he went on to win yet another High Roller Event, this time at the WPT Paris. He won $159,000 after going vis-à-vis against Freddy Deeb in a heads up battle.

Mizzi is obviously incredibly talented at high roller events, as he won yet another one in August, particularly the EPT Tallinn High Roller Event where he placed second. Then, he managed to make it into two WPT final tables, particularly the Foxwoods World Poker Finals where he won $88,000 and the Doyle Brunson Five Diamond World Poker Classic at the Bellagio where he won $59,000. All in all, Mizzi earned $1.9 million in tournament winnings during 2010.

The Top 10

Of course, Mizzi’s not the only one who had a stellar performance. In fact, second to him was Tom “KingofCards” Marchese, who also got the 2010 CardPlayer Player of the Year Award. Fernando Brito was third, David Peters was fourth and Vanessa Selbst fifth. Eric “basebaldy” Baldwin won sixth place, Dwyte Pilgrim seventh, Chris Bjorin eighth. Jason Mercier took ninth place and Chris Bell took tenth. Unlike in the Cardplayer Player of the Year rankings where he took down 5th place, John Racener was conspicuously absent in the Bluff Magazine rankings. Bluff magazine has rankings for a wide range of other poker activities, but is probably not the best place to check out online gambling reviews, where you’d be better off checking out sites like Gambling666.com.

With 2011 upon us, it’s now time to start anew. It’ll certainly be fun waiting to see who will nab the PotY award this time.
