Aussie pro wins PokerStars APPT Sydney

Aussie poker pro Jonathan Karamalikis came into the final table of the PokerStars.net APPT Sydney Main Event overshadowed by a couple of poker pros that hail from other parts of globe, Daniel Negreanu and Roland DeWolfe. Despite the tough lineup the Aussie pro Karamalikis was able to weave his way through the tough field and in the end raise his hands in the air in victory.

For Karamalikis, who plays online poker at Full Tilt Poker where he is a sponsored pro, the win marks his largest score to date, and puts the Australian over the $1 million threshold in tournament winnings, one of the first marks of greatness in tournament poker.

Negreanu and DeWolfe entered the final table at opposite ends of the spectrum, with DeWolfe the chip-leader and Negreanu the short-stack at the table. Not surprisingly, Negreanu was the first player eliminated, but what was definitely a shock was DeWolfe following him to the exit in 8th place! The elimination of the two best players at the table opened the door for the rest of the field, and Karamalikis stepped through the opening and was able to claim the victory.

Here are the complete final table payouts for the APPT Sydney Main Event:

  • Jonathan Karamalikis — $459,510
