Duhamel beats Racener to win 2010 WOP Main Event

With a decisive 6-to-1 chip-lead heading into heads-up play the smart money was on Jonathan Duhamel to become the next World Series of Poker Champion, but if John Racener has shown us anything throughout his WSOP sojourn it’s that he knows how to survive.

Racener didn’t go down without a fight, as it took Duhamel 43 hands to finish off the Florida poker pro, and at one point Racener was able to double-up with pocket Queens against Duhamel’s K4. Unfortunately, this was the only significant pot Racener would win, and in the end he was forced to get his remaining 15 million chips in the pot with K8s. With Racener all-in Duhamel called with AJ and the board bricked-out giving the 23 year-old Canadian poker pro the 2010 WSOP title –the first Canadian Champion in the history of the Main Event.

Duhamel earned the top prize of $8.9 million, while Racener seemed very content to pocket the $5.5 million for his runner-up finish. Here are the complete final table payouts for the November Nine:

  • Jonathan Duhamel – $8,944,310
  • John Racener – $5,545,955
  • Joseph Cheong — $4,130,049
  • Filippo Candio — $3,092,545
  • Michael Mizrachi — $2,332,992
  • John Dolan — $1,772,959
  • Jason Senti — $1,356,720
  • Matthew Jarvis — $1,045,743
  • Soi Nguyen — $811,823
