Paul Leggett Responds to Allegations of Extortion

The Ultimate Bet Super Scandal has always been one of the sore spots of many online poker players, one that’s best left forgotten. Old wounds, however, were reopened last week as one Travis Makar decided to expose some very shocking revelations about the scandal at the DonkDown Radio Show. His words made people wonder if the whole Russ Hamilton issue really was just the tip of the iceberg and if the real culprits are really still out there.

A Suspicious Letter

One of the pieces of evidence that Makar brought with him was an e-mail supposedly sent by Paul Legett, UB.com COO to Zoltan “Brainwashdodo” Rozsa. Rozsa was apparently trying to extort Leggett, hanging some ‘info’ about the cheating scandal over the said COO’s head. The letter was discussed at length in the radio show and was posted later in the Two Plus Two Forums. Basically, its contents included Legett telling Rozsa that he’s happy if Rozsa is really giving up on the whole extortion thing, affirming that there can be no trust between them, threatening police involvement should Rozsa disclose any ‘information’, and wanting to ‘exhaust all avenues of negotiation’ – i.e., offering money – for Rozsa’s silence.

He also insists that the money will be much less than what Rosza asked for initially and that Rozsa will have to bring convincing proof that all the leverage he has over Legett will be handed over on that day. The letter caused quite a stir in the forums so it’s not really surprising that Legett formed a response quickly and posted it on his blog.

The Response

Legett, of course, professed his innocence over the whole thing. He says that he never paid anything to Rosza but that it is true that Rosza tried to blackmail Ultimate Bet by releasing ‘confidential company information’ such as financial records and player data. Legett admits to thinking about paying the money since he didn’t want the company’s reputation to be tarnished with the release of confidential information. He even arranged to meet Rosza in order to work things out. However, he said that he gave the issue a great deal of thought and decided to just not pay Rosza a single dime. He wants Rosza behind bars for blackmail.

It’s hard to decide who to believe in these days, especially since it’s so hard to verify information and to just take people’s words for it. Whether or not Makar is telling the truth, though, there’s only one end result: bad press for UB despite all their efforts to clean up their rep.
