Poker pros criticize poker forum users

Dusty “Leatherass” SchmidtThere are many benefits to reading and posting on the online poker forums –2+2 being the best known of the bunch — but more and more poker players have been criticizing the denizens of these forums as “Geeks’, “Nerds”, and “Like High School”, and these are the more non-combative comments!

Anyone who has ever been a consistent contributor to a poker forum knows there is more than enough drama to go around –I have had my fair share of drama on poker forums over the years, and no longer contribute to the discourse—and there are more than a few posters whose only joy in life is to “stir the pot”.

So, it should come as no surprise that a number of top players look down on the poker forum community as a whole; DragtheBar instructor Dusty “Leatherass” Schmidt he summed it up this way to me:

It’s almost like high school in poker nowadays. For them, it is about taking shots at big games, being amongst the “in crowd” at websites like twoplustwo.com etc. It is sad. For me, I wear it like a badge of honor that I banned myself from that awful website. I think the culture that is being cultivated at places like twoplustwo.com is destructive and is ultimately going to be something that a lot of talented kids playing today are going to want to kick themselves when they get older and realize they spent way too much time worrying about being cool…

More recently it has been Vanessa Rousso taking the forum posters to task in a web documentary about her life titled, Ordinary Girl, where she talks about forum posters who claim she is a weak player and only sponsored because of her looks:

It used to be really hard to deal with that. I made me think maybe I was a one hit wonder and led to some real insecurities. But over the last four years I’ve made seven six figure cashes. I’ve been profitable in tournaments year in, year out. So I’ve proved all I need to for both me and the people whose opinions I respect. The biggest irony is that all those people on Two Plus Two are the exact prototype of the types of people that have been my best friends my whole life. Super-smart, kind of geeky guys. That’s pretty much my crew. I’ve always been best friends with those type of people. I fit right in with them.

The latest player to hammer the 2+2 forum was Tony G, after they not only bashed him, but the Loose Cannon, Elizabeth Houston, from Week 9 of the PokerStars.net Big Game; going so far as to use derogatory terms about her. Here is what Tony G had to say:

I’ve been taking a look at this thread on 2+2. It’s gay! Oh wait, that’s me, I’m gay according to some of the posters. My response is: WHO THE F*** CARES if you think I’m gay? I don’t care! Maybe you should tell your buddy sitting there huddling next to you when you fire up the threads on 2+2, maybe he cares.

I do care about Elizabeth and anyone picking on her is beyond the level of low life and your diatribe against her makes you my enemy…

Tony went on to comment about Daniel Negreanu’s recent take on the Big Game controversy by saying,
“Thanks Daniel Negreanu for posting as well and just bending over for all the 2+2 nerds.”
