PokerStars cracks down on Chinese collusion teams

This past weekend PokerStars has taken drastic measures to curtail the cheating that has been taking place between players from China. In a statement issued to all of its Chinese players PokerStars informed them of the following changes in its policy:

“PokerStars.com has introduced a new security feature that prevents players from certain countries playing at the same ring game table.”

“This restriction means that only one player from each of these countries is able to play at the same ring game table. You are able to play at any ring game table you wish but once you are seated no other player from your country will be able to join the table. Similarly, if another player from your country is seated, you will be unable to join that table until they leave.”

“We regret the inconvenience that this has caused you but this policy has been implemented to enhance the integrity of the games.”

The crackdown stems from the collusion scandal that was uncovered this summer involving a huge team of Chinese players. Not only did the publicity hurt the PokerStars brand –which had been able to stay above the fray in regard to cheating scandals at other online poker rooms—but the site also had to reimburse affected players some $2 million out of the companies own coffers.

This is by far the most drastic step any online poker room has taken up to this point to curtail cheating.
