United States Poker Championship begins Nov 1

USPC pokerThe United States Poker Championship (USPC) is one of the longest running poker tournaments in the country, having begun in 1996 –although there was no tournament in 1997– many years before the poker boom. The USPC was also one of the first poker tournaments to be televised on TV, as early as 1999. Over the years the USPC has seen some of poker’s top players walk away with the crown, and was instrumental in launching the career of Daniel Negreanu who won the tournament in 1999 after defeating John Bonetti in heads-up play.

The 2010 version of the USPC begins on November 1st and runs through November 22nd with the $5,000 Main Event beginning on November 19th. Once again the tournament will take place at the Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, NJ. The USPC was able to team up with Spike TV in 2009 to broadcast the event which has created a huge resurgence in its popularity, and the 2010 tournament will be broadcast on Spike TV in early 2011.

Here is a look at some of the notable past winners of the USPC:

  • 1996: Kenny Flaton
  • 1999: Daniel Negreanu
  • 2001: Men Nguyen
  • 2002: John Hennigan
  • 2003: Toto Leonidas
  • 2006: Alex Jacob

John Juanda finished runner-up in both 2000 and 2001, and Erik Seidel accomplished the same feat in 2002 and 2003!
