World Poker Tour Malta Results: Matt Giannetti Wins

It was a pretty exciting conclusion of the WPT Malta as the player Matt Giannetti managed to climb up the ranks and right past Cecilia Pescaglini who was in his way during a number of hands. At the end of the day, it was Matt Giannetti who was crowned the WPT Malta champion, with Pescaglini coming in right behind him.

The Final Table

Cecilia Pescaglini arrived late on the scene and immediately right on her first hand, Matt Giannetti took a chunk of her chips, reducing the total amount below the 1 million mark. A couple of hands later, Giannetti took 300k of Pescaglini’s chip, further reducing it into an even much smaller amount while gaining much for his own stack. AS things looked grim for Pescaglini, she nurtured her chips back to health to a come-back. Pescaglini was able to take 670k chips from Simon Trumper as her double 8’s proved to be the better hand than Trumper’s double 7’s. Later on, Pescaglini was also able to take around 725k chips from both Cristofer Williamson and Fabien Sartoris, which got her right back into the action. During this time, Tristan Clemencon, who initially had the lead, started to see his chips shrink, up until he eventually eliminated Mats Karlson. Of course, things didn’t end well for Clemencon right after Williamson and Sartoris were eliminated by Pescaglini and Trumper as he was next on the elimination list. Clemencon eventually went all in against Pescaglini and Trumper, but Pescaglini was able to hold up until the river, which gave her the winning hand, eliminating Clemencon and also gaining a huge advantage over the others. Later on, Trumper went all in as Pescaglini called. At first, things seemed well for Trumper, but as the turn was revealed, he was in trouble and the river did not give Trumper’s hand any improvement. Trumper was then eliminated on to third place and there were only three players remaining.

Giannetti, Pescaglini, and Bianchini

It took these three players six hours to decide on who’s going to play the heads up match. Filippo Bianchini did not do well after the long hours as his stack was mostly taken by Pescaglini and right after, he was eliminated by Giannetti. Now the heads up play started with Pescaglini having a huge advantage over Giannetti. After a number of hands passed, until Giannetti was able to take a slight lead and Pescaglini went all in, which led to the conclusion of the event, with Giannetti as the champion.
