Blom beats Palmer at SuperStar Showdown

At first, it looked like Palmer was going to get the upper hand on the SuperStar Showdown. In the rematch, however, it became apparent that Blom would not let his pride get trampled on that easily. He actually made a hefty $66,000 profit from the decisive match, effectively putting his monetary win above Palmer’s and making him the official winner of their showdown.

A Decisive Battle

In the previous week, Blom and Palmer sat down for a session of 2,500 hands, a session that Palmer eventually won. Of course, the match could have went either way, and the lead actually seesawed from the two, but it was Palmer who was lucky enough to have the lead when the final hand hit. The match ended with a $5,400 win for Palmer and a promise to have a rematch the following week. As such, the two once again met on the felt to play another 2,500 hand session. There were several big pots, most of them eventually falling into the hands of Blom. Most of these pots were worth more or less $20,000, with the biggest reaching $32,000. Blom impressively managed to keep the lead by a decisive margin for the rest of the session, which was an incredible feat in itself. Halfway through the battle, Blom was up by more than $65,000 – a lead that went well into $100,000. It looked like Palmer was in for a big loss until Blom finally let up. Palmer won himself a pair of $20,000 pots. It was too late for him to fight back though, and had to settle for a total loss of $66,000 by the end of their match.

The Aftermath

With another victory tucked underneath his belt, Isildur1 continues to dominate the superstar showdown, proving himself to truly be one of the best in the field. He has now added Palmer to his list of victims, namely Negreanu, Cates, Gulcsik, Katchalov, and Tony G. It’s a shame that Full Tilt pros cannot take a go at Isildur1 at the SuperStar Showdown, especially since the match ups there could be the most interesting in poker history. Meanwhile, Blom continues to bowl over his fellow PokerStars pros and some unsigned pros. Who Blom’s next opponent at the SuperStar Showdown will be has yet to be announced, and some people are already suspecting that Blom might be taking a well-deserved break.
