Viktor Blom to face Eugene Katchalov in SuperStar Showdown

PokerStars has finally announced who Viktor Blom aka ‘isildur1’ is going to face next at the PokerStars SuperStar Showdown. He’s going to battle it out with Eugene “MyRabbiFoo” Katchalov at the fourth installment of the series.

The Story so Far

The PokerStars SuperStar Showdown is a huge hit with the online poker community. You need only to look at the discussions going on at the poker forums to see how everyone’s just eating this series up. Isildur now sits at a 2:1 win rate. The first installment of the series was him against Isaac Haxton – a match which he, quite humiliatingly due to all the expectations built up over the years, lost. The second match was against the infamous Tony G. This time, Isildur1 won by a wide margin, leaving Tony G to simmer with his damaged pride, reduced to making feeble pleas for a rematch. With a 1 win 1 loss record, it was clear that the third match would be a tiebreaker; but Isildur1 had a tough opponent in Daniel ‘Jungleman12’ Cates. Still, Isildur1 prevailed and proved his superiority by a hair’s breadth. Now, however, he’s going to be facing an even tougher opponent.

Eugene Katchalov, a Ukranian Poker Pro, has won more than $6 million from live tournaments alone. His achievements in the live arena have earned him much attention from the poker world. Katchalov has been ‘in the scene’ since 2004 and has been pretty consistent since then. Katchalov is also a talented online poker player, though it’s obviously not his main arena. So far, Katchalov has more than $800,000 in winnings from online poker tournaments alone. What’s more, Katchalov is having a stellar 2011. He already won $1.5 million last January in a Super High Roller Event at the PCA.

How the Match will go down

At this point, it could be anyone’s game. Katchalov is extremely talented, but then so is Isildur1. Blom might have a bit of an advantage, though, since he has more experience when it comes to online poker. Multi-tabling is also a pretty important skill and he certainly tops Katchalov at this arena since the latter is primarily a live poker player. It’s certainly going to be interesting to see how this match plays out. If Isildur1 wins, he’ll further cement his lead. On the other hand, if he loses, he’s going back to even, with 2 wins and 2 losses.
