WSOP all set to re-play some historic matches, again

WSOP is the most reputed poker tournament held every year, and every diehard poker fan must be thrilled to hear the good news that three of its memorable matches will be re-played. Yes, you read it right, WSOP to re-organize three of its most memorable matches again in Los Vegas this summer. It’s a part of TV series, and ESPN bought the rights to air all the re-matches on July 26 as a part of annual WSOP coverage.

The Matches

First match to replay is famous Chris Moneymaker vs. Sammy Farha on 2nd June at Rio; Las Vegas, these pros will face each other after a gap of eight long years, yes they last met in 2003 at the main event of WSOP, where amateur Chris beat Sammy Farha to win a whopping prize money of $2.5 million with a gold bracelet. This rematch will be based on the best-of-three format, where three matches will be played; third match will only be played, if necessary. In the first match, each player will have the same number of chips as they had back in 2003, second match will reverse the chip count, and last match, if necessary, be played with the even number of chips.

Second in the line is 1989 main event classic match: Johnny Chan vs. Phil Hellmuth, remember? To rewind your memories, in 1989 WSOP main event, Johnny Chan was all set to win the third straight main event title when Phil Hellmuth stopped his winning streak and becomes the youngest winner at that time. This replay is a single match only with even stacks to each player.

Third and last match to replay is not yet decided. WSOP is left the choice with its fan, and everyone can mark his choice online via WSOP’s Facebook page. There are four choices to choose from: Jonathan Duhamel vs. John Racener; 2010, Jamie Gold vs. Paul Wasicka; 2006, Greg Raymer vs. David Williams; 2004, and Johnny Chan vs. Erik Seidel; 1988. Among all possibilities, the probable rematch will be Johnny Chan vs. Erik Seidel. Again, this is a single match with even stacks.

On Air!

Though, all the matches, will be opened for public on first come first serve basis, these matches will again be aired on ESPN via a special 2-hour coverage on July 26. This telecast will also include some footage of the original matches, an add-on treat for WSOP’s fans!
