Star-studded Final Table at WPT

Poker fans are getting pretty excited as the WPT Bay 101 Shooting Star’s final table was shown to be one of the most star-studded in WPT history. Mike Sexton, WPT host, Poker Hall of Famer, and Poker Ambassador, has finally made it to his first ever WPT final table. However, it won’t be an easy run for him, as world-famous poker pro Mike “the Mouth” Matusow has also made it into the running. As if that’s not enough, WSOP bracelet owner, Steven Kelly is also in the final six along with Vivek Rajkumar, who is already in his second consecutive WPT final table.

The definition of ‘tough’

We’ve seen tough final tables before, but this is undoubtedly one of the toughest ever in history. Four big names all hoping to get a slice of the first place prize, a whopping $1 million, it’s certain that the battle will be grueling. However, of all the big names in the final table, Mike Sexton has garnered the most attention. He may be lagging behind at sixth place, with only 363,000 in chips – the David to Steven Kelly’s Goliath of a stack of 4.1 million in chips – but Sexton has certainly seen enough of the WPT to know that absolutely anything can happen. He has also seen enough to know that the odds are pretty much stacked against him. Sexton told Matt Savage in an interview that he’ll likely be the first one to go with a stack as short as his. Savage also asked Sexton about who the anchor will be when the final table is finally broadcasted on TV. Sexton replied, “You know what? I don’t know. Vince might be by himself.

They may find somebody. I’m there playing for a million, let the WPT worry about it. I’m off tomorrow!” Indeed, his commentaries will certainly be missed, but then again, it’ll probably be more interesting to watch him down there doing what he does best, playing poker.

Two Mikes

Mike Sexton isn’t the only Mike in this final table who is worth watching though. Mike “The Mouth” Matusow is also competing. He has been in five WPT final tables before, but he has never finished first in any of them. Who knows? This could be Matusow’s time to shine. He certainly has a fighting chance with his 2.1 million chips, just about half of what Kelly has. Entering the final table in second place is Alan Sternberg, who has 3.7 million chips. There’s also Casey McCarrel who has 430,000 chips, the second shortest stack next to Mike Sexton. Finally, there’s Vivek Rajkumar at fourth place with 1.6 million chips.
