Top 300 Poker Players Named – Mercier Dubbed World’s Best

A lot of professional players have done well in these past few years in regards to their performance in live tournaments. GlobalPokerIndex.com has been keeping track of the consistency of the performance of the worlds finest and has concluded that 24 year old Jason Mercier is the best live tournament poker player in the world.

Ever wondered who the top poker players in live tournaments would be? In order to determine the best players, you have to keep in mind their consistency over the past years. The Global Poker Index was created in order to determine the best live poker tournament players. The players are awarded points each week and so far, the results came in and some of the most prominent names in the industry have come up.

The Top Players

By the end of August, Global Poker Index has named Jason Mercier as the world’s best live tournament player based on his GPI of 2644.14. Mercier has consistently performed well in the past four years and was able to earn around $6.722 million. Coming up on second with a GPI of 2609.49 is Erik Seidel. The 51 year old has done a miraculous feat this year, having produced a staggering $6.261 in 2011 alone. Erik Seidel has earned a total of $16.616 since is debut in 1988. On third place with a GPI of 2506.17 is Bertrand “Elky” Grospellier. The Frenchman has already made an impressive $8.437 million since his debut in 2005 and has already managed to earn $2.087 million this year. Grispellier also managed to acquire a WSOP bracelet this year too. On fourth place is Eugene Katchalov with 2369.65 GPI. As the list updates, Katchalow will most likely get a better rating as his placing third on this year’s EPT in Barcelona wasn’t taken into account yet. On fifth place is Fabrice “FabSoul” Soulier, who is another Frenchman. Samuel Stein, with a score of 2120 sits just behind Soulier and behind Stein is Thomas Marchese with 2117.52 and Sorel Mizzi on eighth with a GPI of 2115.12. Scot Seiver, who has managed to increase his GPI managed to end up in ninth place from his previous spot on 15th place. On tenth place is the face of PokerStars, Daniel Negreanu with 2042.41. Negreanu has recently made around $1.534 million in 2011 and still counting.
