“Weeds” and “Entourage” producers developing poker comedy for Showtime

ShowtimeIt seems another group is going to take a crack at a fictional poker show –remember Tilt on ESPN? Or, perhaps you’d like to forget that one! According to deadspin.com, Showtime is planning on airing a poker comedy from the people who have been part of two successful cable shows you may have heard of; “Entourage”, and “Weeds”. Working on the project will be Weeds creator and executive producer Jenji Kohan and executive producer Matthew Salsberg, who was also an integral part of Entourage.

Called “Whales”, the show’s plot-lines will revolve around a group of aspiring poker players who have moved to Vegas with dreams of playing in the World Series of Poker. Fortunately, Salsberg is an avid poker player, so he may bring a bit of realism to the show –something that has been very lacking in other poker dramas/comedies.

There is still no word on when the show will air or who will be part of the cast, but if their previous work is any indication, “Whales” could quickly become a classic cable comedy; not to mention the possibility of a number of cameos and roles for big-name poker pros –some of whom just cannot get enough time in front of camera –think Humberto Brenes, Phil Hellmuth, Jean-Robert Bellande, Tiffany Michele, and a slew of others!
