2011 World Cup of Poker captains announced

What started as 56 countries competing for a spot in the January final –to be played at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure in the Bahamas– is now down to just nine countries, and the Captains for the World Cup of Poker finals have now been named.

Last year the World Cup of Poker was won by Chinese Taipei when they were able to beat out a very game Croatia in the final match. This year it will be Argentina, Philippines, the UK, Spain, Slovakia, Italy, France, Ukraine and the USA competing for the $100,000 in prize-money.

Here is a look at the captains for each finalist country:

  • Argentina — Jose “Nacho” Barbero
  • Philippines — Neil Arce
  • UK — Liv Boeree
  • Spain — Juan Manuel Pastor
  • Italy — Luca Pagano
  • Solvakia — Dag Palovic
  • France — Arnaud Mattern
  • Ukraine — Alexander Dovzhenko
  • USA — Vanessa Selbst

The finalists are determined by PokerStars using a combination of tournament leader-board winners and qualifiers, and the final 9 all receive a paid trip to the Bahamas for the PCA as well as an entry into the $100,000 freeroll that will determine the World Cup of Poker champion.
