The mysterious poker player Isildur1, who many believe to be the Swedish poker pro Viktor Blom, has been showing up more and more at the Full Tilt poker tables lately. But unlike his wild sessions in late 2009 where he took on three or four of the best poker players in the world in heads-up action at the same time, this time around Isildur1 has been a bit more conservative with his bankroll and with his game selection.
So, while Isildur1 is still firing away in his ultra-aggressive style he is doing it at much lower stakes, and no offense to his recent crop of opponents, but they are not named Phil Ivey, Tom Dwan, or Patrik Antonius. His toughest foe this time around was assuredly Daniel ‘jungleman12’ Cates. The two players have some history, considering in 2009 it was Isildur1 who relieved the up-and-coming Cates of a sizable chunk of his bankroll –this time around jungleman12 got the better of Isildur1, but was only able to take $100,000 off the Swede.
Another recent trend in Isildur1’s play has been his ability to quit the game when he is losing; something that plagued him during his first go-round in the nosebleed games. No longer does he blow through buy-in after buy-in, while he is noticeably tilting; the new Isildur1 seems to be limiting himself to just 3-hour sessions, win or lose.
Widely rumored to be the high-stakes Swedish player Viktor Blom –this is possibly the worst kept secret in poker– Isildur1 caused a huge stir in the online poker world when he appeared at the nosebleed games on Full Tilt Poker in late 2009 –first winning $6 million in a few weeks before losing it all, and a few million of his own, back in as similar span of time.
Isildur1 has also been involved in the 10 biggest pots in online poker history, and is the only player to ever win and lose a million dollar pot.
Isildur1 made even more headlines after losing $4.2 million to online poker pro Brian Hastings in a single session! Controversy surrounded the loss when Hastings admitted to using data-mined statistics from Brian Townsend to help take down the mystery Swede. Townsend was given a 30-day suspension from his ‘Red Pro’ privileges for his role in the incident.
We’ll have to wait and see how the new and improved Isildur1 fares, and if he once again takes a shot at the ‘Big-Game’.
