The Poker Community Prepares for WSOP 2011

The excitement is really building up now that the World Series of Poker (WSOP) 2011 is drawing ever nearer. May 31 marks the beginning of the highly anticipated event, which has amazingly been held annually for 42 years now. It will be held at the Rio Hotel and Casino in — where else? — Las Vegas, Nevada, Sin City itself. It’s going to be fierce competition for here on out, so if you’re going to join, be sure to stock up on some energy. If not, then sit back and enjoy the ride, this year is sure to be interesting.

About the Tournament

The World Series of Poker is the biggest poker tournament in the entire world. No other poker tournament even comes close to its scope. It’s going to run from May 31 until July 19, and by then play will stop to recommence on November 9 where the WSOP Main Event Final table play will take place. This year’s WSOP, the 42nd annual incarnation, will be huge. There are going to be 58 gold bracelet events, the most ever in any single WSOP tournament. Registration is already ongoing and is actually going to run for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. No rest for the wicked, or so they say. The Rio is already decked with WSOP decors and banners, beckoning poker players far and wide. The tables too are all set up and ready for use. In short, the stage is finally set for the climax of the industry’s year.

The Events

Technically, though, the WSOP has already begun. Event #1 is the $1 million National Championship, the final table of which was played yesterday at Caesars Palace. Event #2 will mark the beginning of the festivities in Rio. It’s going to be the $500 buy-in Casino Employees event. Those who worked hard just so these event can take place certainly deserve to get first dibs. It’s going to be followed by Event #3, the $25,000 buy-in Heads Up No-Limit Hold’em Championship — both of which will be held tomorrow, Tuesday, May 31.

Indeed, it’s going to be exciting just waiting to see who the first bracelet winner will be this year. We’ll get to see it up close and personal now that the WSOP officials have implemented live streaming for all bracelet events. But it’s going to be even more exciting waiting to see who the winner of the Main Event will be. But that’s still a long ways off, so for now let’s enjoy the festivities.
