Top poker pros attend WSOP Circuit Regional Championship in AC

The field may be on the small size, but considering the tournament is taking place during the week leading up to Christmas, is being played in Atlantic City (far from a poker Mecca anymore), and boasts a $10,000 buy-in, the 136 players that entered the Northeast Regional Championship of the World Series of Poker Circuit Series Main Event are some of the top tournament poker players in the world; making it a small, but difficult lineup.

Leading the way heading into Day 2 of the event is none other than Team PokerStars Pro Vanessa Selbst, who has had an amazing 2010 thus far. Selbst was able to build up a 136,000 chip-stack on Day 1, while her nearest competitor Isaac Baron could only muster a 90,000 chip-stack. Here is a look at the chip-leaders heading into Day 2 of the tournament

  1. Vanessa Selbst — 126,375
  2. Isaac Baron — 89,250
  3. Andy Frankenberger — 84,850
  4. Kenny Hicks — 80,400
  5. Nick Mitchell — 79,675
  6. Chris Klodnicki — 79,250
  7. Jim Collopy — 79,100
  8. Jason Burt — 73,050
  9. Dan Kelly — 72,275
  10. Frank Vizza — 72,000

Should Selbst capture the $358,000 first-prize she would end 2010 with a tally of over $3.2 million in live tournament earnings. This would include winning the Partouche Poker Tour Grand Finale and the PokerStars NAPT Mohegan Sun Main Event. Selbst’s 2010 breakout has shot her to the top of most people’s list of the best tournament poker players in the world.
