2011 PokerStars European Poker Tour London Day 1b: Benny Spindler on the Lead

It was the day 1b of the European Poker Tour main event in London, and right after the many levels of play, only a total of 255 players from the original 411 players who started at the day 1b will be heading on to the second day of the series. At the end of the day, it was player Benny Spindler who took in the lead on to the next day with a total of 160,800 chips at his disposal.
Last year, the European Poker Tour attracted the attention of a total of 848 players overall and there has been a drop in numbers this year, with only a total of 691 players, which is still considered to be a pretty good number. The prize pool generated y the players went up to a whopping £3,351,350, and the top 104 players are guaranteed a payout. The player who ends up as the top player however, will be receiving a pretty generous £750,000 and the title.

Spindler vs. Levi

Benny Spindler got most of his chips from Nicolas Levi. One fellow player raised to 1,350 on the fly when the blinds were at 300/600 with a 75 ante. Levi then raised to 3,400 as spindler four bet to 10,000 and the first player who raised folded his way out of the action. It was Levi’s turn to act and he decided to go all in, shoving approximately 40k chips on to the table. Spindler, had a pocket of aces, so he immediately called. As the cards were revealed on the board to be 10, 4, 2, 2, and J, Levi’s 7 – 4 proved to be the inferior hand against Spindler’s, which let Spindler grow his stack of chips for the day.

Players during the Day

There were a number of prominent poker pros around at day 1b including Daniel Negreanu, Vanessa Selbst, Jason Mercier, Joe Hachem, Angel Guillen, Victor Ramdin, and David Williams. Unfortunately for Negreanu and Selbst, things did not go their way and they were eliminated during the day as the other players were free to move on to the next day.

Jason Mercier

Mercier just had a pretty good run on day 1b as he managed to let his chip stack grow as he went against Anrei One. During the 250/500 blinds with a 50 ante, Anrei One raised to 1,100 and Mercier went on with 2,725. Later on, One four bet with 6,200 and Mercier proceeded on with 12,050. Then One went on again and went all in with 45k and Mercier eventually won the pot with his A – K against One’s 9 – 7 when the board did not give One’s hand any improvement.
