WSOP Main Event Update: Patrick Poirer in the Lead

The third day of the WSOP Main Event has just concluded and the heat is certainly on among those who still remain. There’s a shift in the atmosphere of the tournament, as if everyon’e finally feeling the pressure as they get closer and closer to the money bubble. Also, as is common in the WSOP, the chips have changed hands and now the leaderboard is once again filled with new names while those who were once at the top are now struggling to regain their spots.

Day 3 Storylines

There were several interesting things that happened during Day 3 of the WSOP $10,000 No Limit Hold’em Championship – a.k.a the Main Event. The most significant one, of course, is the shift in the balance of power, so to speak, in the event has shifted really quickly. Ben Lamb, who was pretty much owning everyone during the previous day suffered a huge setback on Day 3 and was bumped off the top spot. He now has only 450,000 chips – though a couple of double ups should redemy his situation. Patrick Poirer is now the new chip leader heading into Day 4. He was the first one to pass the 1 million chip mark and will be figting the next day with 1,328,000. He’s not the only chip millionaire in the ranks, though, as Daryl Jace has 1,282,500. They’re followed by Chris Kwon with 944,500 chips. Other pros with notable stacks include Peter Jetten with 657,000 chips and Bryan Devonshire with 600,000 chips.Phil Hellmuth is now pretty much short stacked and is ranked low among the players still remaining. Still, he’s being patient and is trying to hold on – though for how long remains the question. Other pros still in the running but with unimpressive stacks include Eli Elezra, Vanessa Ruosso, and Daniel Negreanu.

Going Home

There were also several notable players who exited during Day 3, among them the 2009 champion, Joe Cada. Patrik Antonius was also eliminated from the running, along swith Sam Stein, Annette Obrestad, and Victor Ramdin. John Racener was also eliminated, along with Jason Mercier and Carlos Mortensen.

There are now only 852 players remaining, and the pressure is truly on. The money bubble will burst when there are only 693 players left. With only a little more than a hundred players left to be eliminated before they can breathe easy, the competition will surely be extra fierce. All those who manage to finish in the money will have $19,359 guaranteed.

The best option for European players has to now be Titan Poker which is offerring an amazing 200% up to $2000 sign up bonus, zero rake on high stakes tables and an awesome $5,000 reloader bonus.
