WSOP Main Event Update: Only 57 Players Left

It has been a week since the Main Event began at the WSOP, and from a starting field of 6,865, the numbers have dwindled down to the final 57. They will be the only ones to move forward to Day 7 of the Main Event, getting closer and closer to entering final table play.

Interesting Stories

With the WSOP Main Event advancing swiftly to the final levels and shedding a lot of players on the way, the fans were finally able to focus on the group that contains the 2011 November Niners. There were a lot of story lines that were revealed that caught the crowd’s attention – foremost of them is the story of Ben Lamb. Don’t let his name fool you – this guy is not docile at all. In fact, if you let your guard down around him, he’s likely to rake in your chips. The way Lamb’s playing in this year’s WSOP, he’s like the King of the Jungle. Lamb is currently in second place with 9.9 million chips, despite having had quite a bit of trouble when he settled on a table with some of the top pros still left in the running for the title, such as J.P. Kelly and Erik Lindgren.

The only one sitting above Lamb in the leaderboard is Ryan Lenahan, with a monster chip stack of 12.8 million. That’s a pretty huge lead which will no doubt be difficult to surpass when the time comes. Still, it’s impossible to tell how the game will go at this point, especially since chip swings tend to be pretty intense the closer people get to the top.

Last Ones Standing

With the top poker pros like Phil Hellmuth and Daniel Negreanu out of the Main Event, there are only a few personalities left who managed to make it past a grueling week. Among them are Sam Barnhart, JP Kelly, Bryan Devonshire, Tony Hachem, Erick Lindgren, and David Bach, who began the day as the chip leader. Daniel Negreanu exited at 211th place, pretty much killing the dreams of his fans who were all hoping that he would make something of a grand comeback in this year’s WSOP.

Another interesting player who will be making it to Day 7 is Erika Mountinho. Moutinho’s the only female among a sea of men, and she’s the last female standing in this year’s WSOP. Fellow female players Claudia Crawford and Amanda Musumeci had already been eliminated.
