Daniel Negreanu Makes Huge Comeback on SuperStar Showdown

Daniel Negreanu’s practice sessions must have been pretty effective since he actually managed to beat Viktor Blom in the second incarnation of their challenge. It was a huge comeback, considering that he got trampled on in their first challenge, having gotten broke in the first 1,439 hands and not even reaching the required 2,500. This time, though, Negreanu managed to beat Isildur1 and make a profit of $26,500 – not much compared to the $150,000 he lost last time, but a victory nonetheless. Now, they’re at a standstill of 1:1, which means that now there’s no definite winner.

About the Match

At first, it seemed as if Negreanu would once again get trounced by Isildur1. Blom actually managed to get a huge lead early on in the match, claiming $120,000 of Negreanu’s money. Amazingly, though, Negreanu managed to bounce back just in time to avoid a disaster. He went crazy with the double ups, easily overwhelming Blom until they became more or less on par with the internet prodigy. Negreanu kept hacking at Blom’s stash until he managed to take the lead. There were only a few more hands left, and Negreanu had to hold on to his lead if he wanted to win. The suspense was really intense, any railbird could attest to that. Most of all, however, it was Negreanu who was most tense, “I was stuck like $120k at one point I think. I broke lots of stuff in my room btw lol, smashed everything”, he said in the PokerStars Blog. Breaking all those things must have done him good, though, because in the end, Negreanu came out with a profit of $26,500.

A Hearty Congratulations

It’s great to see Negreanu achieve his aims, especially after all the hard work he’s been putting in. Isildur1 was a really tough opponent, and Negreanu even said in the same article that “Isildur1 is incredible. I hope to do a training lesson with him one day. He’s the best.” The match between him and Blom was an amazing portrayal of old school vs. new school, and the result just made the debate even more heated. Whether these two will have a tie-breaker is still unknown for now. Scott “urnotindangr” Palmer, after all, is already lined up for the next SuperStar Showdown, so it’s certainly not going to be another Negreanu versus Isildur1 match. Still, this next match should be pretty interesting, considering that two prodigies will be facing off on the felt.
