VERSUS to broadcast WSOP Circuit Series

Wsop CircuitAmerica, meet Dwyte Pilgrim! The man who has been a dominant force on the World Series of Poker Circuit Series may finally get a chance to showcase his poker skills now that VERSUS has picked-up the broadcast rights for the tournament series –Pilgrim will also get some TV exposure for his WPT Borgata win.

Although VERSUS has no history of producing poker content, the telecast should be in good hands, as it’s being produced by the same company who handles Poker After Dark, High Stakes Poker and the WSOP Europe telecasts.

In a press release, VERSUS Vice President of Programming Jeff Goldberg had this to say about the acquisition: “We are very excited to present coverage of the World Series of Poker Circuit tour to a national audience of more than 75 million U.S. homes.”

The move could help boost the WSOP Circuit’s attendance, considering the tour has struggled since ESPN stopped airing the WSOP Circuit tournaments –televised tournaments tend to bring out more players since they have the added shot of making a name for themselves, and possibly being signed to a lucrative sponsorship contract.

VERSUS has yet to release a broadcast schedule, but the first tournament that will be televised will be the upcoming Regional Championship in Hammond, Indiana; each episode is slated to be 2-hours, giving poker fans plenty of action to watch.
