Viktor Blom Really is Isildur1

In a somewhat anticlimactic revelation – more of a confirmation, actually – PokerStars finally announced that Viktor Blom really is the dark horse, Isildur1. Now that’s one mystery solved and settled, and there isn’t even a need for Blom to say, “And I would’ve kept my identity too if it wasn’t for you meddling kids.”

Case Closed

“Who is Isildur1?”

It was a mystery that boggled the minds of everyone in the poker industry. Everybody was asking the quintessential question. Who is this dark horse who has appeared out of seemingly nowhere to challenge the likes of Phil Ivey, Tom Dwan, and Patrik Antonius and be able to hold his own? The only thing anybody knew about him was that he hailed from the beautiful country of Sweden. Other than that – blank, nothing, nada, zilch. It was obvious that he was one of the best, most audacious cash players around – but who is he, really? Nobody knew for sure. There was a lot of speculation. Some were saying that he was a total unknown, others were saying that he was Hellmuth in disguise, and some were even saying that he was Osama Bin Laden himself. Majority, however, believed that he was Viktor Blom, a poker pro who has achieved much success in his home country – and this majority happened to be very much spot on. Blom denied it several times, which was why people were still unsure. But as it turned out, he really is Isildur1. He even updated his facebook account to confirm that he is, indeed, employed by PokerStars, a mastercard poker site.

It was, needless to say, quite anticlimactic. Though now everybody can breathe a sigh of relief, say a hearty “okay, yeah, so Isildur1 is Blom”, and get on with their lives – so that’s got to count for something. It’s still pretty amazing that Blom managed to keep his identity hidden for so long though and one has to admit, all the secrecy had us running in circles. Even some pros offered to give him money just so he would appear at a live event last year. Now the cat’s out of the bag and we can safely and accurately say Viktor “Isildur1” Blom.

Blom vs. Grospellier

Of course, now that the dust has settled, Blom is doing what he does best – playing poker. He fought a heads up battle with Bertrand “Elky” Grospellier at a 100-hand $25/$50 session. Afterwards, he is going to battle it out with “OU THE NICK”, PokerStars qualifier. What’s great about the revelation is that – should “Isildur1” ever win these matches, we can finally give credit where it’s due – on Viktor Blom.
