Darvin Moon Signs with Heartland Poker Tour

Darvin Moon, the lovable logger who faced Joe Cada at the heads up portion of the WSOP Main Event last 2009, has just been announced as the new ambassador of the Heartland Poker Tour. He will be the one promoting the said tour by appearing at several HPT events all over the country and representing the tour whenever he plays abroad.

Darvin Moon Gets Signed

Up until recently, Darvin Moon remained as the only 2009 November Niner to not have a sponsorship deal with any of the large poker rooms. One of the reasons why he never signed any deal was because he liked to live a simple life. Moon is a self-taught poker player who owns and operates a small logging company in Maryland. He charmed the poker world with his simplicity and humility, and also for his underdog image. Moon and his laid back self quickly felt at home with the Heartland Poker Tour, as this organization has always been known for its laid back quality as well. He started playing at the HPT last 2010 and has been a regular ever since. So, when Scotty Nguyen had to cancel his plans to join the tour because of an illness, Darvin Moon was gracious enough to take his place.

Sell Out? No, Not Really

A lot of people were criticizing Moon for accepting a sponsorship deal when he said earlier that he didn’t want all the publicity that came with the world of high stakes poker. Then again, people do seem to have this tendency to hold people too rigidly to their words despite the fact that it’s changing one’s mind is something everyone does. This is why it was very satisfying to see that Moon handled everything nicely by being his usual self when asked about his sponsorship deal. Moon said that the HPT people were “like family” to him, so he joined. It’s really as simple as that, folks, no need to color it with any unpleasant remarks. Also, the HPT is very active in donating to the Disabled American Veterans Organization, what with each HPT prize pool having a portion dedicated to the fund.

Moon expressed his admiration for the work the HPT does for the veterans, which is probably one of the things that influenced his decision to join. Indeed, it’s going to be interesting watching him through this tournament series. His first match will be at the Meskwaki Bingo Casino Hotel in Iowa which will be held from March 27 to April 3.
