Gus Hansen Wins $1 Million in Just a Week

Gus Hansen has always been one of the most celebrated poker players, but mostly just in the live arena. Online, Hansen’s considered as a so-so player. But he proved everyone wrong this 2011 by winning $1 million in just a single week.

The Wheel of Fortune

If you’ve been keeping up with the online nosebleed action, you’ll probably remember all the ridicule that Gus Hansen suffered from the hands of the more tenacious pros after he lost a whopping $1.3 million. Well, those same pros must be choking as they swallow their own words now that Hansen’s proving to be more than just competent in the online arena. He’s been having a very consistent run lately and is currently up by $2.1 million, half of which he won in the span of just 1 week. Hansen battled it out against some of the biggest online cash players, such as UarePileous and Phil “OMGClayAiken” Galfond.

The most prestigious of his wins this week, however, was against Tom ‘durrrr’ Dwan, shark extraordinaire. Still, being up by two million is no guarantee that the rest of the year will go well for him. Last year, he was in a similar situation, and he even got as far as $5 million before his bankroll started to take a plummet. If he can manage to avoid the same pitfalls he fell into last year, however, then he might just ride this high straight into December.

Winners and Losers

Of course, The Great Dane isn’t the only one making waves at the online scene. Patrik Antonius is having a stellar year, as well. He’s already up by $1 million, and if there’s one thing that we can say about this poker pro is that he takes consistency very seriously. Phil Galfond is the second biggest winner this week, though he’s only up by more than $200,000. He would have had a much bigger win, but then he lost much of the money throughout the week. The biggest loser was “URnotINdanger2”, who lost more than $600,000. UarePileous took the second spot in the biggest loser category, with more than $400,000 lost to Gus Hansen himself. Dan “Jungleman12” Cates is having a run of bad luck as well as he’s down by more than $200,000.

All in all, the high stakes online poker world is pretty much running smoothly, with Hansen as current top dog.
