Poker Power Couple Eliminated from the Main Event

Everyone’s hopes of seeing a power couple on the Final Table of the Main Event were dashed when David Sands was eliminated in 30th place, and in a seemingly “can’t bear to be apart” kind of way, Erika Moutinho followed at 29th place.

The Last Woman Standing

As the players entered Day 7 Play of the Main Event, everyone’s eyes were on power couple David Sands and Erika Moutinho. Erika is the “Last Woman Standing”, meaning that she’s the only female left in the game. Mind you, this is not a derogatory term meant to belittle women in the field of poker. It’s just that women are such an unrepresented minority in the game, that only 3.5% of the players who enter the Main Event are actually women. Women like Moutinho who actually manage to make a stand in a field dominated by men serve as an inspiration and an open invite to women who want to join but are hesitant to. What was interesting about Moutinho was that the one who taught her to play poker, David Sands, had also survived to the seventh day. People were pretty much buzzing with excitement over the possibility that these two would make it all the way to the final table. But alas, David Sands was eliminated, and all possibility of a power November Niner couple shattered in the dust. He clashed against John Hewitt. Sands had J-10 while Hewitt had A-J. Sands bet all-in and Hewitt hesitated before making the call. Then the flop was revealed to be A-Q-Q and the win went to Hewitt. Sands got himself a nice hug and kiss from his girlfriend before he left the Main Event.

Moutinho Eliminated

Sands may have gone to the audience area to watch how Moutinho fares against her opponents, but he did not have to wait too long because she soon found herself in pretty similar situation as Sands did. She was eliminated in 28th place and she joined her boyfriend in the stands soon after. The two of them got a pretty hefty payday after that, almost half a million dollars for the two of them combined. All in all, it was a pretty good run for a couple, probably one of the few successful runs in the history of the WSOP. Indeed, these two will no doubt be interesting to watch in the future because they’re sure to generate even more success.
